This one is for my Mom. Mom was a very skilled piano player and she often found bliss when dancing to live performances of Dixieland Jazz bands. I must admit that I had not heard of Allen Toussaint before preparing for Bonnaroo 2009, but I would be shocked if there wasn’t an Allen Toussaint record stashed in my treasured crate of Mom’s vinyl. Anyway, my taste in jazz/big band leans more towards piano driven (Count Bassie, Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonius Monk) and Allen Toussaint is first and foremost a pianist. Allen Toussaint would easily be a top ten ranked Bonnaroo 2009 artist if it wasn’t for a major schedule conflict with Allen Toussaint’s performance scheduled during the same time as one of my top three artists (Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3). Anyway, I’m going to peel myself away from the Rodrigo y Gabriela set to catch the Sonic Stage set by Allen Toussaint so I can dance in memory of Mom.
